The Savvy Stylist: Camp Reunion

Reader Request

I used to go to an overnight camp every summer, but I haven't been since I was 15. In a few weeks, I'm getting together with a bunch of other people who went to the same camp. I haven't seen a lot of them in about 10 years. We're going to dinner at a casual restaurant and then out for drinks. I think most people are just wearing jeans. I want to look great since it's been so long since I saw everyone. What should I wear?

This outfit is very casual but still cute and flirty. It costs $98.28.

5 Under $50: Wrap Bracelets

I love how wrap bracelets are both tough and delicate at the same time. Here are five of my favorite affordable wrap bracelets.

Fashion Redemption: Taylor Momsen

I'm so excited to introduce a new feature on Fashion Under $100: Fashion Redemption!

I know that we've all seen a photo of a celeb's outfit and thought, "No, no, NO! That is just wrong!" Well, now I'm going to try my best to make it right (for under $100, of course).

For the first Fashion Redemption post, I'm going to make over someone who desperately needs it: Taylor Momsen. Taylor! You are16 years old! Why are you walking around in a see-through top, thigh-highs, and stripper shoes? By God, where are your parents?

I know that Taylor was performing with her band at Warped Tour, but there are ways to be edgy without looking like a washed up streetwalker. So here is how I'd re-do Taylor's way trashy look for $91.37:

5 Under $50: Melanie from You Are My Fave's Picks

I'm completely smitten with the items profiled on You Are My Fave. Melanie has such a great eye for spotting treasures, so I'm incredibly excited that she's sharing her favorite affordable picks here today.

I get wildly excited when summer comes and I can dress as breezy as possible. I've noticed that I always gravitate towards dresses, sandals and lightweight cardigans. It's beginning to feel like I have a summer uniform but in a good way. Not in a forced, "I never get what I want!" middle school way. Oh, and mastering the summer scarf is on my to do list.

The Savvy Stylist: 4th of July Barbecue

Reader Request

I've been dating my boyfriend for six months now. I've never met his parents before, but he's bringing me to their annual July 4th barbecue to meet them and his sister for the first time. It's going to be casual, but I want to impress them. Any suggestions?

This look is perfectly presentable for meeting the parents, but it's also summer barbecue appropriate - you'll stay cool in this. It costs just $99.09.

5 Under $50: Anna from Shmitten Kitten's Picks

Today's guest post is from Anna from the hilarious dating blog Shmitten Kitten. Even if you think you'd never read a dating blog, do your self a favor and check Anna and her crew out. The site is hilarious, I promise you that!

Summer is all about gettin' free and staying cool. I like looking cute, smelling good, and sippin' Slurpees so this look is a little bit nautical and totally rad. You can rock this at the park, at a barbecue or walking your dog. You'll be sure to turn heads along the way.

The Savvy Stylist: 90's Party

Reader Request

My friend is having a 90's party, and we're supposed to come in costume. I think it sounds hilarious and I can't wait. But I have no idea what to wear. I'm going to dinner with my grandmother first, and I won't have time to change, so I don't want something too outlandish. Something that can go from dinner to the party would be great. Any suggestions for me?

This look is right out of the grunge years, but nobody will bat an eye if you wear it out with grandma. It costs $94.94.

5 Under $50: Her Name Was Lola's Picks

Today's guest post is brought to you by Lola of Her Name Was Lola. Make sure to check out her incredibly stylish blog!

For me, the key element in my summer wardrobe is COMFORT - in order to beat the NYC heat! I would love to wear this outfit out + about on the weekend - it's perfect for deal-hunting at the open air markets or even a casual brunch with friends at your favorite neighborhood café. Plus, what could be more fun than mixing these fabulous patterns together?

The Savvy Stylist: Law Firm Picnic

Reader Request

My husband recently started a new job at a very prestigious law firm. Next month, they are having their company picnic, and my husband is bringing me along. It's going to be a casual affair, but it's going to be my first time meeting the senior partners and their wives, so something tells me that denim shorts and a tank top won't be appropriate. But I want to be comfortable because there will be games played. Also, it will probably be incredibly hot - we're in central Florida. Can you help?

This look is respectable and fairly conservative, but comfy and cool. It costs just $92.88.

5 Under $50: Living Fly on a Dime's Picks

Today's guest post is by the smart and savvy Patrice from Living Fly on a Dime.

Summer's officially here and that means it's time to update your footwear. Flip flops are great but too informal for the office or a night out on the town. And sometimes your feet need a break from the 4 inch heels. Luckily, the embellished sandal combines the best of both worlds. They're comfy and come in a slew of fashionable options. They can easily be paired with a flowy sundress or skinny jeans and tee.

The Savvy Stylist: Evening Bat Mitzvah

Reader Request

My boss invited the entire office to his daughter's Bat Mitzvah. I've never been to one so I'm not sure what to wear. It's an evening party, with a service at their synagogue and a party at their country club. Any suggestions?

It's tradition to keep your shoulders covered at a synagogue, but I'm sure you still want to look festive for the party, so here is a look that should work very well in both venues. It costs $97.80.

The Savvy Stylist: Modeling Call

Reader Request

I'm going to an open call at a modeling agency for runway and print work. The website says to wear no makeup and "body conscious clothing" but that's not direction enough for me. I'm not sure if I can just wear jeans or if I need to be more dressed up. I'm 5'9" with dark hair and olive skin, and I look best in dark colors. Thanks, I look forward to seeing what you can put together for me!

I kept this outfit very simple. The bright red will flatter your coloring and the simple jeans/tank combo will flatter your body. Good luck at the call!

5 Under $50: Ashley from Fashion Roadkill's Picks

Today's picks come from the amazing Ashley and her hip, trendy site, Fashion Roadkill.

Being someone who doesn't really gravitate towards color, I chose 5 neutral pieces for summer that can easily be paired with more colorful items. Everything is under $50 which basically means they'll be in my closet very soon (or they already are).

My cousin is getting married in Puerto Rico this summer. Can you help me put together a fun, festive outfit that I can wear when I attend? It's a daytime wedding, more on the casual side, and the ceremony is on the beach so I'd prefer to wear flats or wedges. Thanks!

5 Under $50: Jelly Shoes

They're ba-ack! Again!

I'm talking about jelly shoes. I remember wearing these to camp in the mid 80's. Back then, they were cute but gave me a ton of blisters. Now, they're actually made to be comfortable, and they're still adorable! Here are five of my favorites.

The Savvy Stylist: She & Him Concert

In a few weeks, I'm going to visit my cousin in Philadelphia, and we're going to see She & Him in concert. I can't wait to see Zooey Deschanel sing - she's my favorite celebrity. I'd like to wear something that is similar to her style. Can you recommend something?

I've gotten so many requests on how to dress like Zooey Deschanel lately, and it's always so much fun to use her as a muse! I'm sure she'd approve of this look, which costs just $98.39.

5 Under $50: Leaf Motifs

The Savvy Stylist: Student Teaching

Reader Request

I start student teaching at a high school this fall and I have nothing to wear. I'm going to need a professional wardrobe, but since student teachers don't get paid, I'm going to be on a strict budget. Can you help me put together an outfit or two that are professional but still stylish? I'm in my early 20's and look young, so I want to be sure that I don't look like the students I'll be teaching.

This look, which costs only $99.67, is chic but practical, mature but not stuffy. I hope you like it and good luck with your student teaching!

5 Under $50: The Little White Dress

Everyone always talks about the little black dress, but I think that the little white dress is just as fun and almost as versatile. You can really have fun with your shoes and accessories when you wear a crisp white frock.

Here are five affordable LWD's.
