BIG Blog-Related News

Some of you who follow on Facebook or Twitter may have already figured this out, but it's time to make the big announcement:

This will be the last blog post* on Fashion Under $100.

But don't worry, I'm not going away, I'm just moving to a new location. From now on, you can find me at What the Frock?, my new fashion and lifestyle blog.

I've been blogging on Fashion Under $100 for almost four and a half years, and it's been a blast, for the most part. But, after I had to take a hiatus before my wedding, it was sort of hard to come back. The blog started to feel more like a chore. So I did a lot of soul-searching and finally determined why I was no longer having fun with this blog.

It was because I've been feeling limited in what I can post here.

By calling the blog "Fashion Under $100," I was limiting myself to a budget that, in this economy, is harder and harder to stick to. And I felt like, by working with such a strict budget, I was sometimes forced to use retailers and/or items that I didn't really endorse.

The format is limiting as well - by copying celeb outfits and styling looks for readers, I never had much of an opportunity to convey my own style.

And finally, the blog subject matter is limiting, because I'm interested in more than just fashion.

And so, What the Frock? was born. I'm still going to post some celeb looks for less, and I'll still take stylist requests, but I'll no longer be sticking to the "under $100" budget. Don't worry, I am a cheapskate at heart, and I'll try my best to keep all of the outfits at a reasonable price. But this way, I can be more creative and put together looks that aren't just good for the wallet, but are high quality as well.

But I'm also going to be posting other things. What kind of things, you ask? Who knows? That's the fun of it: with this new format, I can post anything I want! The idea of it makes me giddy! Food, entertainment, lifestyle, decor, anything that tickles my fancy! But first and foremost, What the Frock? will still be a fashion blog at heart. And I'd love to hear any suggestions you may have for content and any other features.

So click on over to What the Frock?, update your bookmarks, blog links, and RSS readers, and if you don't mind, please spread the word!

Thanks to everyone who has visited and supported Fashion Under $100 over the years. You're the best!

Signing off (sort of),

*not really, because I'll be posting here every so often to remind y'all to join me at What the Frock! But this is the last bit of actual "content." Same diff!

The Savvy Stylist: Irish Pub Party

Reader Request

I have a semi-urgent request, since the event isn't till the end of the month I have time to come up with an outfit, but I've never been to a pub much less an Irish one, so I'm not sure what to wear. It's a going away party for a friend who I worked with on a project before. I live in Miami and the weather lately has been more rain than shine but you never know come the day so I would like to wear something that takes both into account. I don't like to show of my arms much. I'm pretty much open to anything, but I love the classics and love looking sharp, something with detail is always my thing. Thank you in advance!

Don't worry - pubs, Irish or otherwise, are very casual and you can wear whatever you want. So here is a low-key but stylish look that costs $99.80.

The Savvy Stylist: Camp Reunion

Reader Request

I spent most of my teenage summers as a counselor at an overnight camp, but I haven't seen most of my co-counselors since we started college many years ago. We're all in our mid-20's now and have organized a reunion through Facebook. The reunion is going to be at an upscale casual bar, and I'd like to look amazing but not overdone. I'm thinking a maxi dress, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

This maxi is paired with sleek wedges and statement accessories for the perfect mix of upscale and casual. This look costs $92.59.

My cousin is getting married in Huntington Beach in a couple weeks, and I would REALLY like to look fabulous. Both ceremony and reception are semi-formal, and I need something that I will be able to dance in.  I'm 5'2" with a very well-endowed chest (36D) and a voluptuous, curvy figure (about 145 lb.) Oh, and I wear a size 5.5 shoe.  Favorite colors are green and purple. Thank you SO much for your help!!

This look will be perfect for the wedding, and will flatter your petite, curvy figure - plus, I included both of your favorite hues! This outfit costs $94.92.

The Savvy Stylist: Grandma's Birthday Tea

Reader Request

At the end of July I'm heading home from the states to Australia to see my whole family for my grandmother's 80th birthday afternoon tea. It will be about 60 degrees there, and I have no idea what to wear! I'm 23 years old and have lost 33 lbs since I saw them last and I currently weigh about 149 lbs so I want to wear something fashionable and young that will show off my new body but is still classy and appropriate for an 80th. I have a straight body type,  prefer to cover my upper arms and like all colors except green and pink. I really like Lauren Conrad's style and don't like anything with too many ruffles. Please help!

This look is perfectly appropriate for an afternoon tea, but will still show off your svelte new figure. It costs $99.39.

The Savvy Stylist: Birthday Celebration

Reader Request

My parents are having a party to celebrate my birthday in a few weeks. They are doing a barbeque in the late afternoon and then my friends and I are going out to bars and maybe a club. I won't have time to stop and change between the two events. Could you help me find an outfit that would work for both? I like wearing bright colors, and I'm tall (6') and curvy and I wear a size 12 in women's shoes.

A flowy maxi can take you from a barbecue to a club with no problem, and wedges are perfect for walking on grass and then a night out dancing. This versatile outfit costs $91.49.

5 Under $50: BHLDN

It's been a long, long time since I've done a 5 Under $50 post, but I really, really wanted to feature this retailer. Have you heard about BHLDN? It's the new wedding and event line from Urban Outfitters, Inc. (who, besides Urban, also own Free People and Anthropologie), and the merchandise is just gorgeous. Most of it is sold at much higher price points, but there are a handful of special items that are very affordable. Check them out:

The Savvy Stylist: Big Date

Reader Request

My good friend is setting me up with a guy from work. I haven't been on a first date in a while and would love some tips on what to wear. I'm about 175, 5'4/5'5. I don't like short dresses or skirts and I don't like sleeveless. I have big knockers so high waisted outifits don't work for me. I don't like hot pink, and prefer blue, any shade really. I have hazel eyes and a short haircut. It's a HOT summer here so something cool, maybe linen?

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a linen dress that I thought you'd like, but this dress is 100% cotton, so it should keep you cool. This look rings up at just $94.34.
